BOTOX®

Panama City, Florida

If you want to minimize laugh lines, frown lines and forehead wrinkles, but don’t want to go under the scalpel, Botox® may be just what you are looking for.

How it Works
Botox® or botulinum toxin is a popular non-surgical injection that temporarily reduces and even eliminates these lines around the face and neck. The injections work by blocking nerve impulses to the muscles, which temporarily paralyzes the muscles responsible for your wrinkles. The result is a smoother, younger looking appearance.

Botox® treatments have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration for anyone ages 18 to 65. This proves that the procedure is safe and does not lead to long-term paralysis in your face and neck.   Dr. Garland began using Botox in 1985.

While you’ve probably heard about Botox® treatments being used to treat wrinkles, there are many other uses for these injections.

More than Wrinkles
Studies also suggest that Botox® treatments can help alleviate migraine headaches (not FDA approved), excessive sweating, and muscle spasms in your neck and eyes.

Botox® for Blepharospasm
Blepharospasm is a condition where one or both of your eyelids spasm uncontrollably in a repeated manner. This forceful, involuntary movement can even lead to temporary vision loss. The cause of blepharospasm remains unknown.

When injected into the eyelids and brow, Botox® injections can help control this condition.

Botox® for Hemifacial Spasm
Hemifacial spasm is a condition that involves forceful, uncontrollable spasms in half of your face. This condition may be caused by vascular compression in your facial nerves or an intracranial tumor. If you are experiencing this, you should undergo a CT scan or MRI as soon as possible.  Dr. Garland has published an article in The Medical Literature on hemifacial spasm.

Botox® injections can treat these symptoms until other surgery can be performed. If the underlying cause for these Hemifacial spasms cannot be determined, Botox can be performed every three to six months to treat this condition.  Neurosurgery used to be the only treatment for hemifacial spasm.
