Linda Mangun, is an occupational therapist and member of the low vision team at the Eye Center of North Florida. Linda has received specialized education and training to treat those who suffer from low vision.

A 2001 graduate from the University of South Alabama, Linda is certified by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy and licensed in the state of Florida.

She has provided low vision rehabilitation in the community through guest presentations at senior centers, assisted living facilities, independent living communities and other home health service delivery programs. Linda also provides referrals to the Division of Blind Services for those who qualify for state programs.

She has provided occupational therapy services in several different practice areas. These include:

  • Adults and geriatrics in acute care, in patient rehab, and skilled nursing
  • Low vision home health rehabilitation
  • Pediatrics in home health and school systems

Working with the other physicians at the Eye Center of North Florida, Linda has developed a low vision rehabilitation program. This plan provides quality intervention to those experiencing vision loss and struggle with their daily activities because of poor eyesight. She provides marketing strategies to support this innovative program and continually helps to foster its growth in the community and surrounding areas.

Linda also collaborates with physicians outside the Eye Center, working to generate referrals and follow-up after treatment begins.

Her major research interests include:

  • Quantitative and qualitative data reflecting the results of pre and post occupational therapy treatment
  • The long-lasting effects of the treatment on daily living skills, coping skills and community integration
  • The benefits of occupational therapy in the use of optical and video magnification devices of daily living
  • The amount of time clients use these devices after therapy is finished
  • Researching a plan to ensure Medicare’s continued coverage of low vision rehabilitation devices

Linda also has teaching experience in her field. She has given guest lectures in the Occupational Therapy Department at the University of South Alabama. Linda has also provided Level II fieldwork sites for graduate occupational therapy students.

In the future, she wants to establish a low vision resource center in the community and provide day programs for the visually impaired.
