ReZoom™ Intraocular Lens (IOL)
Panama City, Florida
The ReZoom™ IOL is an artificial lens which can replace the eye’s natural lens. When the natural lens clouds up because of cataracts, vision becomes blurry and dim, and if no treatment is done, blindness can follow. In these days of sophisticated technology, eye surgeries have become much faster, easier, and virtually pain-free. At the Eye Center of North Florida, we offer two other IOLs besides the ReZoom™ IOL – they are the Crystalens and the ReSTOR IOL.

What is the ReZoom™ IOL?
Like the ReSTOR® IOL, it is a multifocal lens. That means that it contains zones in its structure, which interact with light differently. It uses a technology called Balanced View Optics™, and has five concentric zones. Each one refracts (bends) incoming light in a different way and works in differing light conditions, so that you can see clearly at all distances and in all lighting conditions.
For example, the central zone supports bright-light and far distant conditions, when the pupils are constricted. The next zone gives good near vision in low to moderate light conditions. Another zone gives good distance vision, also in low to moderate light conditions. Another gives distance vision in low light when the pupils are dilated. The eyes do not need to do anything for these zones to operate. It just happens as a result of the way the IOL is designed and manufactured.
The ReZoom™ Procedure
It is done on an outpatient basis, with a topical anesthetic. We will ask you to be here about an hour before your procedure is due to begin so that we can get you properly numbed and comfortable. The surgery itself takes anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes.
Your eye surgeon will first disintegrate the natural lens using ultrasound. A tiny probe delivers the ultrasound through a small incision at the side of the eye (about one eighth of an inch). The lens pieces are easily removed using suction.
The ReZoom™ IOL is gently inserted through the same incision, into the same pocket previously occupied by the natural lens. It is correctly positioned, and the incision needs no stitches, as it will heal by itself.
We will monitor you for perhaps an hour afterwards, and you can relax and doze in one of our big comfortable chairs. When we are satisfied with your progress, and you are feeling ready, you can leave, and of course, will need someone to drive you.
You will immediately notice the huge improvement in your vision. During the following weeks, vision will improve further and stabilize.
