Dr. Julian Tokarev is a board-certified comprehensive ophthalmologist with clinical interests in refractive cataract surgery, interventional glaucoma, and management of complex dry eye patients.

Dr. Tokarev earned his medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School and completed a transitional year at Kaweah Delta Medical Center in California. He went on to complete his ophthalmology residency at the University of Texas – Houston. His undergraduate studies at Carleton College focused on psychology and neuroscience. During medical school, Dr. Tokarev was honored as an Alpha Omega Alpha Carol L. Kuckein Student Research Fellow and was an American Medical Association Seed Grant Recipient for his research on focal ischemic stroke models.

His surgical expertise includes phacoemulsification with premium intraocular lenses, laser treatment of glaucoma, sustained intraocular drug delivery devices, and microinvasive approaches to restoring the eye’s natural pressure regulation system. He treats a broad spectrum of eye conditions, including cataract/ dysfunctional lens syndrome, corneal dystrophies, as well as open- and closed-angle glaucomas.

In addition to English, Dr. Tokarev speaks Spanish and Russian, enhancing communication with patients across varied backgrounds.

A dedicated researcher, he has authored over 20 peer-reviewed publications and presentations in ophthalmology, neurology, and medical imaging, reflecting his commitment to advancing the field and improving patient outcomes. Outside of medicine, Dr. Tokarev enjoys playing tennis, watersports, and cultivating Tillandsia air plants.
